Ernest Hemingway's home and studio, Key West, Florida

Last week we drove from Miami down to the Florida Keys. The weather was cool and because we couldn't do any of our usual water activities, we had more time for tours. One of the highlights was Ernest Hemingway's home and studio in Key West. I took this photo from uptop the lighthouse across the street. (That in itself was an adventure!) I'm still new to blogging and meant to have the Hemingway House entrance photo appear first, but instead, it's the very last one. That's okay!

This is Hemingway's writing table and the photo is for my friend, Mim. She is a wonderful writer and has many unusual writing instruments and supplies.

These wonderful French deco tiles line the floor of the bathroom.

There are approximately 47 cats living on the Hemingway property. Here is one of the famous six-toed ones.

The winning entry was titled Chinese Opera. Her snowy skin looks like porcelain!

Snow Days Chicago

In The Spirit of Music Garden located at Michigan Avenue & Balbo in Grant Park Chicago, they have a wonderful snow sculpture competition. Participants included teams of three from the U.S., China, and Canada, as well as 12 teams of Chicago public high school students. Do you recognize Snoprah?

Middle East Music Ensemble

Some musicians from the Middle East Music Ensemble at the University of Chicago. The round frame drums in the foreground are called bendirs. This beautiful concert of Turkish music was held at International House on Sunday, January 17, 2010. Thanks to my friend, M, for helping me to set up my blog!

Gerbera daisies

These were just beautiful earlier this summer.
Soon, lovely fall mums will take their place.

my first post

How to be a gardener: Lean toward sunshine; dig down deep; make peace with chaos; grow amazing tomatoes and too many zucchinis; raindance; hum along with the bees; wear crazy hats and baggy pants; have wise hands; cultivate patience; moonglow; stay rooted; blossom wildly; have shady and mysterious corners; mend fences; wander; get earthy; share the harvest; be thankful.
